Those who aren’t familiar with Punjabi weddings should know that the seed of tradition is sowed deep within each event. What grows from this seed is a series of celebrations that each couple molds into their personal preference while keeping the roots of the tradition within. At the forefront of the events, is the Rokh. It’s the first step into binding the couple together as the two families gather to officially announce the engagement.
This year, French Accent was honoured to design Anmol and Deep’s Rokh to start off their wedding adventure. Upon consulting with the client, we knew the direction we were going was green and modern. Not a traditional Indian event colour. This made the design all the more interesting in its conception, and the event unique in its entirety.
Seeing as our Rokh would be represented by a colour that exudes the pureness of nature and beginnings, we followed the theme into the woods to start the day with a photoshoot. The bride covered in emerald and the groom accented in the same hue created the perfect contrast against the grounds of Assiniboine Park.
In Punjabi tradition, the party started at the bride’s home where they waited to welcome the groom’s family. This was followed by the presentation of gifts, first, to his family and then, to the couple.
The Rokh turned its focus from the couple to its guests with vast amount of food from appetizers to Good Bud’s Bakery’s Tandoori, Tamarind and Sapodilla Tangy Chicken made fresh on site. The feast finished off with a dessert bar, various desserts all inspired and curated from an Oreo. Finally, in true Punjabi fashion, the Rokh offered an endless amount of music and the families were truly united as they danced the night away into dawn.
